Best Moto G Under $300
Motorola has released the Moto G Power 2026. Here is some good news: this smartphone works well. Unlike last year’s phone, it doesn’t freeze as much. It’s a bit strange because the same processor was used. It still uses the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 with 8 GB of RAM. I think the better performance comes from new software and Android 16.
Now here’s the bad news: there aren’t many changes from the last model. They even took out wireless charging, which I found frustrating. The phone’s colorful options are also gone. While it may not perform as well as the 2024 Moto G Power, it is not very slow. What has improved? The selfie camera has a 32-megapixel sensor, and the battery is now 5,200 mAh. I got two full days of battery life with normal use.
I like the fake leather texture on the back because it gives the phone some style. The 6.8-inch LCD screen is bright and clear. It has a fingerprint scanner, a headphone jack, and space for extra storage. It is also IP68/69 rated, which means it can handle heavy rain and some water. Motorola promises two Android updates and three years of security updates.
The camera system has a 50-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide, and the 32-megapixel selfie camera. But photos from the main camera can look a bit washed out. It struggles in tough lighting, and you need to hold your hand still to avoid a blurry picture. If you are patient, you can get some okay images, but the cameras aren’t a strong point for the Moto G Power. Even the better selfie camera is just average.
There aren’t many other phones at this price. The Moto G Power 2026 may drop to $250 or even $200 during sales. If you can catch it during a sale, it’s a reasonable Android phone. However, I suggest waiting for the Moto G Stylus 2026.

You should stick with the phones listed above, but here are some more options if you’re looking.
Motorola Edge 2025 costs around $500. Motorola still makes smartphones with cool screens that curve into the body, making them look almost frameless. This design isn’t as popular anymore because it can make the phone harder to use. The touchscreen worked better for me, and the phone looks nice with its leather back. But the Edge doesn’t impress compared to strong competition at $550. I noticed it lagged in the camera app. The main camera is okay, but the update policy isn’t great for recommending this phone. It’s better to buy it on sale.
The Motorola Razr+ (2025) costs around $800. It’s similar to the Razr+ (2024) but has a stronger hinge. The features are mostly the same, making it hard to understand its place in the lineup. You may miss the ultrawide camera for group selfies, and the battery is smaller than others. You can also save money by getting the Razr+ (2024), which has good performance and cameras. I suggest waiting for a sale, as this phone has dropped to $580 before, which is a great price for a folding phone.
The Moto G 5G 2026 costs $200. This phone is almost the same as the Moto G Play 2026. It has more storage, faster charging, and better cameras. There’s only a $20 difference, so you should pick the Moto G 5G 2026 if choosing. It’s usable day by day, but the cameras don’t take great photos. I managed about two days of battery life with normal use, and it still has a headphone jack. However, it only gets two Android updates and three years of security updates. Spending a little more on the Moto G Power 2026 during a sale is a better option.
The Moto G Play 5G 2026 costs $180. This is Motorola’s cheapest phone. For under $200, it is okay, with 5G and great battery life. You can get a nice design and expandable storage. But the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chip with 4 GB of RAM can be slow. You may have to wait for apps to open. Picture quality isn’t great, and call quality can be poor. The phone will get two Android updates, but I think you should wait for the Moto G Power 2026 to drop to $200 during sales.
What Motorola Phones to Avoid
Motorola phones lose value quickly. Avoid buying any Moto G phones from 2024 or earlier because they likely won’t get more Android updates. The Moto G 2025 and Moto G Power 2025 are not worth it anymore because new models are now available. The oldest model you should consider is the Motorola Edge 2025 or the Razr+ (2025).
The Competition
Motorola competes with Google, Nothing, and Samsung. If you ask me which phone to buy, I’d suggest the Google Pixel 9a for $499. It has many features people want in a smartphone, including wireless charging. You can also check out the attractive and affordable Nothing Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro, but their carrier support can be tricky.
