Washington: While Washington never made rules for artificial intelligence, smart people from different political parties made a plan for how AI should be built safely.

Max Tegmark from MIT helped make this plan. He said 95% of Americans do not want AI to become super smart without rules. He compared it to how the government checks medicines before they go to stores.
The plan has five main ideas. First, humans must stay in charge. Second, no one company should have all the power. Third, people must feel safe using AI. Fourth, everyone must keep their freedom. Fifth, companies must follow the law.
Some experts want to stop building super smart AI until scientists prove it is safe. They also want buttons to turn off powerful AI systems. They do not want AI that can copy itself or fix problems without people knowing.

Tegmark thinks children will help get new rules passed. If AI products for kids must be tested first, more rules could follow. This could help make sure AI cannot help bad people make dangerous weapons.
