Seattle: Amazon wants to make another try at smartphones. More than 11 years after its first phone did not sell well, Amazon is now working on a new one. The new phone is called “Transformer” and may come with special features.
The phone will have Alexa built in. Alexa is the voice helper that works with smart home devices and can answer questions. The phone will also have artificial intelligence (AI) features. These features could help people use Amazon’s apps like shopping, movie watching, and music listening more easily.
Amazon is spending lots of money on AI technology. The company is putting in $50 billion to improve its AI technology and plans to spend $200 billion in 2026 on AI, computer chips, and robot projects. A team led by J Allard is making the Transformer phone. He used to work at Microsoft.
The phone might help people use AI products from Amazon. This could include the new Alexa+ service that has more abilities like finding recipes, helping with schoolwork, or suggesting movies. The phone would work with many Amazon devices already in homes.
