Arc’teryx Delta Jacket offers ultralight warmth with octopus-like fleece weave for summer hiking and backpacking adventures

Best Mid Layer for Hiking Backpacking and Travel 2026

Arc’teryx Delta Jacket: The Arc’teryx Delta Jacket is an ultralight fleece jacket made with Octa Fleece. Octa Fleece gets its name from how it is woven, which looks like octopus arms. This special weave creates air gaps that help trap your body’s warmth. These air gaps also let sweat escape so you don’t feel wet. This fleece is used by many small ultralight companies now.

My review of the Delta Jacket: When I first saw the new Arc’teryx Delta Jacket, I wasn’t sure if I should include it in my guide. I like it as an ultralight middle layer for summer trips. But there is an older heavier version that many people loved. Some angry reviews on Arc’teryx’s website show how much they liked the old one. This new jacket is completely different.

Great for summer trips: This jacket is really good for summer hiking when you wear it with a sun hoodie. The Delta Jacket weighs 8.5 ounces and a sun hoodie like the one from Kuiu weighs about 6 ounces. Together they give you many ways to layer your clothes. They also weigh less than most popular grid fleece options. My only complaint is that nobody thought about fashion when they designed it. One person online said it looks like Mr. Rogers’ sweater. But that’s okay because it’s light and works well for hiking.
