Bluesky First Transparency Report Shows Spike in User Reports Legal Demands

New York: Bluesky shared its first-ever transparency report this week. The report shows how the social media company handled safety issues and followed rules in 2025. Bluesky competes with big platforms like X and Threads, and it grew fast last year – jumping from 25.9 million to 41.2 million users.

Users made 1.41 billion posts last year, with over 235 million containing photos or videos. Police and lawyers sent 1,470 legal requests to Bluesky in 2025 – five times more than the year before. People also reported 9.97 million posts for problems like hate speech or spam, up 54% from 2024.

The company said most harassment reports involved mean comments rather than serious threats. Bluesky’s computers also found 2.54 million possible rule breaks automatically. Workers removed 3,619 fake accounts, many thought to be from Russia.

Bluesky took down 2.44 million bad posts and accounts last year. They suspended 3,192 accounts temporarily and banned 14,599 users permanently for breaking rules. The company prefers adding warning labels to content rather than deleting accounts – they used 16.49 million labels last year, mostly for adult content.
