EU says TikTok must disable addictive features like infinite scroll

Barcelona: The European Commission said TikTok’s app tricks people into using it too much.

The Commission found that TikTok’s tools like infinite scroll and constant notifications make people lose control. They said the app rewards people with new videos so much that their brains go into “autopilot mode.” This makes users scroll forever without thinking.

The Commission wants TikTok to stop these features. They want breaks for screen time and a better way to show videos. TikTok disagrees and says the accusations are false. They promise to fight these claims.

TikTok does have some tools for parents and time limits, but officials say they do not help enough. Parents must do extra work to set these up and kids can turn them off. Some countries want to ban young people from social media completely. The US already has 24 states making laws for age checks.

TikTok just paid money to settle a US addiction case. Now it has time to answer the EU report. If TikTok does not agree with the Commission, they might have to pay big fines.
