Indonesia ‘conditionally’ lifts ban on Grok

Indonesia: Indonesia has made its ban on the Grok chatbot less strict. This means Grok can work again in Indonesia for now. But the government says the ban could be put back if Grok is used in a bad way.

Grok is the chatbot made by a company called xAI. It became a problem earlier this year when people used it to make pictures that were not okay. These pictures showed real women and even children. In fact, at least 1.8 million of these pictures were made in late December and January.

After many countries banned Grok, the company X said it would fix the problems. Indonesia said it would lift the ban if X promised to make things better. X sent a letter to the government saying it would improve its safety rules.

The Indonesian government said the ban is being lifted “conditionally.” This means Grok can work again, but only if it follows the rules. If Grok is used wrong again, the ban could come back.
