Instagram is developing a feature to let users leave others’ Close Friends lists, similar to what Snapchat already offers for private stories.

Meta, which owns Instagram, told TechCrunch about this new idea. The company said the feature is still being worked on and isn’t ready to test with the public yet. But a tech expert named Alessandro Paluzzi found information about it before Instagram announced it.
If someone leaves your Close Friends list, you won’t know unless you notice they stopped seeing your special posts. Instagram plans to tell people that leaving means they won’t see that person’s Close Friends content anymore, unless that person adds them back to the list.
This is similar to what Snapchat does with its private stories. When users share something special, people on their list can leave if they want to. Instagram sees more features like this in the future as they work on letting people pay for extra options on their apps.
