Mastodon is updating its social network to make it more appealing and easier to use, especially for people tired of other platforms like X and Threads.

The old way was confusing because you had to pick a special server to join. Now Mastodon is making things simpler with a new look for user profiles. Before, people had to choose between seeing just posts or posts with replies. Now there’s one “Activity” tab where you can choose what to see.
Mastodon added things people wanted like quote posts and collections. The new design shows hashtags at the top so you can find posts about topics you like. Mastodon also fixed things that annoyed people, like the pinned posts carousel that some users disliked.
The change from just a username to a username with a server name confused new people. Now there’s a pop-up box that explains this. Users can hide tabs they don’t want to see and control how their profile looks. Things that made screens messy were moved out of the way or removed completely.
All the profile editing tools are now in one place. When you upload pictures, you can crop them and add descriptions for people who can’t see the images. First, only special testing servers will get these changes, but everyone will get them in a few weeks when the new version arrives.
