Medium Employees Given Day Off to Participate in National Strike Against ICE

New York: Medium, a big online publishing platform, is giving its workers the day off. They can join a national strike against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE. The CEO, Tony Stubblebine, said it is up to each person how they participate.

The strike is led by activists who want “no work, no school, and no shopping” to push for changes to ICE. This comes after recent raids where people died, including two U.S. citizens. Stubblebine shared this message with Medium staff on Slack today.

He mentioned that workers can take the whole day off, a part of the day, or work on projects that support the strike’s goals. He stressed that Medium is not telling anyone what to do with their political views.

Medium plays a big role in sharing news and opinions on important topics. Stubblebine said they will arrange for work to continue on Friday while employees protest. He believes it’s important for Medium to show its stance, especially since some other tech companies support different political views.

Stubblebine added that supporting diverse voices and truth is what Medium stands for. He pointed out that when the country does better, Medium does better too, making participation in such events important for their mission.
