Milan: The Olympic flame started its trip in Olympia Greece on November twenty-six. Now thousands of people will carry torches across Italy to the Winter Games in Milan and Cortina.
Who gets to hold the Olympic torch? The people who run the Olympic Games pick torchbearers. Some are famous athletes while others are just regular people who do good things in their communities. You can even sign up to be a torchbearer if you want to.
The flame begins in Greece and travels through many cities and towns. Each person carries the torch for a short time then passes it to the next person. This creates a big chain that goes all the way to where the opening ceremony happens.
For the Milan Cortina 2026 Games more than ten thousand people will carry the Olympic flame. The flame left Rome in early December and is moving through Italy toward the mountains where the competitions will take place.
