OpenAI CEO Fidji Simo takes medical leave and COO Brad Lightcap moves to new role as the AI company undergoes leadership changes

OpenAI announced major leadership changes last Friday. CEO Fidji Simo is taking medical leave to focus on her health after a return of her neuroimmune condition.
Simo explained that she had postponed medical tests and treatments to stay focused on her work. The last month has been particularly challenging for her health. She plans to be away from work for several weeks.
OpenAI president Greg Brockman will handle the product teams during Simo’s absence. COO Brad Lightcap is moving to a new “special projects” role. The company will also search for a new chief marketing officer.
These changes come as OpenAI considers going public in 2025. The company recently raised $122 billion in the tech industry’s largest funding round. This new investment values OpenAI at $852 billion.
