Sony Honda jointly kill Afeela EV project after Honda’s strategic shift

Tokyo: Sony Honda Mobility, created by Japanese companies Sony and Honda, stops work on two Afeela electric cars they had been building.

The partners created Afeela sedan and SUV plans over two years. These cars used special technology from Honda, but Honda changed its plans and stopped making three American electric cars. This left Sony Honda Mobility unable to finish their vehicles.

The Afeela 1 sedan would have cost almost $90,000 when it came out. Now it is unclear what happens next for the hundreds of workers in Tokyo and California.

The companies say they will talk more about what to do. They will tell people later what plans they have for the future.

This project started when Sony showed a car idea called Vision-S at a big electronics show in 2020. That car had screens everywhere and special sound features. People were very surprised Sony made a car.

Sony and Honda joined together in 2022 to make real cars. They called them Afeela in 2023.

Many car companies now have trouble selling electric cars in America. The Trump government changed rules about electric cars and added extra costs called tariffs. Some new car companies went out of business. Others made different cars instead.
