TikTok says its services are restored after the outage. The outage was caused by a snowstorm affecting a data center operated by Oracle.

New York: TikTok, a popular app with over 220 million users in the U.S., had problems last week because of bad winter weather. The company said a snowstorm caused power problems at an Oracle data center that runs TikTok’s services. This made it hard for people to post videos, search, and see likes and view counts.
The company said many servers were affected and some features did not work well. People also saw slow loading and sometimes could not use the app at all. TikTok said creators might see zero views on their videos until things were fixed. The company worked to solve the problems, but some issues still happened.
In January, new owners took control of TikTok in the U.S. A group called TikTok USDS now owns 80% of the company, and ByteDance keeps 20%. At the same time as the ownership change and bad weather, other apps got more users. Skylight, a short video app, got over 380,000 new users.
UpScrolled, another social app by technologist Issam Hijazi, became the second most downloaded app in the U.S. social media category. It was downloaded about 41,000 times after the TikTok deal was completed. TikTok said all services are now working again.
