Washington: The Trump administration today officially removed rules that protect our air from pollution. The EPA had decided in 2009 that greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane are dangerous to people. Now they are taking that rule away.
The old rule let the EPA control pollution coming from cars and trucks. Lee Zeldin who runs the EPA says they will make more changes to clean air rules later. Taking away the air protection rule will need to go through many steps just like the old rule did two years ago.
This change might make pollution go up about 10% worse than before. Even though pollution might get worse cheap ways to make electricity like wind and solar power have taken over. People who want to protect nature say this will hurt American families with more pollution and higher costs. Experts say climate problems could make people die more often and take away lots of money from the whole world.
