xAI CEO Elon Musk shares plans for moon-based satellite manufacturing and space data centers at all-hands meeting.

xAI Unveils AI Ambitions Including Lunar Data Centers and Satellite Factories

San Francisco: xAI made its internal meeting public on Wednesday, sharing a 45-minute video about the company’s future plans. The New York Times had reported on parts of this meeting earlier.

This rare public sharing showed Musk’s vision for the AI lab and how it connects to X (formerly Twitter).

Changing Teams at xAI

The company announced changes to its team structure. Some employees left as teams were reorganized. Musk said this happens when companies grow quickly.

“As xAI grows fast, we need to change how we organize work,” Musk explained. “This means some teammates moved on.”

New Four-Team Structure

xAI now has four main teams: one for Grok chatbot with talking features, one for app coding, one for video making, and one big project called Macrohard.

Macrohard can do computer tasks like humans do. Toby Pohlen will lead this team.

“Macrohard can do anything a computer can do,” Pohlen said. “We might have rocket engines designed completely by AI.”

xAI and X Company Numbers

X’s product leader, Nikita Bier, shared that X made one billion dollars this year from subscriptions. They got more subscribers during holiday marketing.

Inside numbers showed xAI created 50 million videos and more than 6 billion images in 30 days using their tools.

However, many fake adult pictures also spread on X at the same time. About 1.8 million of these pictures were made in just nine days.

Big Space Dreams

Musk talked about building computer centers in space. He wants a factory on the moon to make satellites.

This factory would use a special launch system called a mass driver. It works like a giant electromagnetic catapult.

“With moon factories, we could build powerful AI systems that capture huge amounts of energy,” Musk said. “They might even expand to other galaxies.”

Musk said we can’t know what such powerful AI would think about, but he finds it exciting.
