YouTube Eases Monetization Rules for Some Controversial Topics in Update

Los Angeles: YouTube is changing its rules on ads for some sensitive topics. Now, videos about issues like self-harm, abortion, and abuse can earn full ad revenue if they are presented in a non-graphic way. This update aims to help creators tell important stories without losing money.

YouTube shared this news on its Creator Insider channel. They said that earlier, videos with a lot of detail would often get a yellow dollar sign, which limited how much money creators could make. They realized that creators wanted more freedom to earn money from dramatized content and stories.

The company explained that as long as videos avoid very graphic descriptions, creators can keep earning revenue. This change reflects YouTube’s effort to listen to creators’ feedback and offer more ad opportunities.

However, YouTube clarified that some topics, like child abuse and eating disorders, will remain restricted. Videos that include graphic parts of these topics will still be unable to earn full ad revenue.
