Jones Hovercraft 2.0 Snowboard Review Perfect for Big Powder Days

Los Angeles: The Hovercraft 2.0 has special edges that help on hard snow. These edges are called Traction Tech. They grip the snow, and you can still carve well. I think Lib Tech’s Magne-Traction works better, but the Hovercraft held its edge nicely on tough paths.

This board is great for riding in trees. Even though it is wide, it turns easily in deep snow. In March 2024, I took the board on a trip through Northern California, Idaho, Montana, and Washington. At some places, the open areas were tracked out, but I always found fresh snow in the trees. When I rode down steep snowfields, the board felt relaxed and smooth. It glided over flat areas too.

The Hovercraft 2.0 is really good for the planet. It’s made using Jones’ Re-Up Technology. This means it uses parts from old surfboards. Jones found that 95% of a snowboard can be recycled, and that’s where this board’s wood core comes from. The edges have recycled steel, the sidewalls have recycled ABS, the topsheet is made from carbon-neutral flax fiber, and it uses a bio resin that cuts CO2 emissions by 33% compared to normal epoxy. It even has a natural wax that is safe for the environment.

It’s not surprising since Jeremy Jones, the founder, is a famous snowboarder and also starts Protect Our Winters (POW). It’s great to see companies really care about the environment.

There’s a lot to love about this board. It’s best for certain riders. If you like groomed runs, it’s okay, but it doesn’t shine on hard packed snow. For riders who love hunting for powder, surfing down steep slopes, and making big turns, the Hovercraft 2.0 is fantastic.

It’s a fun board that has given me some amazing runs. It has even become my favorite board over the K2 Excavator for powder days. If you enjoy that, I really recommend this board.
