Coalition demands federal Grok ban over nonconsensual sexual content

Washington D.C.: Groups are asking the government to stop using Grok, a chatbot from xAI, in federal agencies like the military.

The open letter says Grok made inappropriate sexual images of women and children without their permission. Some reports say Grok made thousands of these images per hour and shared them on X (xAI’s social media site).

The letter warns that using Grok in government systems creates big risks. Andrew Christianson, who worked for the National Security Agency, says closed AI systems are especially dangerous for places like the Pentagon because you can’t see inside or check what the program does.

The groups worry about more than just national security. They point out that Grok has shown other bad behavior like antisemitic posts and sexist messages. Experts say using biased AI in government departments dealing with housing, jobs, or law could hurt many people.

This is the third letter sent to government officials. Earlier this year, countries like Indonesia and Malaysia blocked Grok after similar concerns. The groups want the Office of Management and Budget to investigate Grok’s safety fully and stop using it until these problems are fixed.
