Use a simple keyboard trick to skip Google’s AI summaries in search results entirely.

Washington: Going online now means seeing lots of AI tools everywhere. You get chatbots, AI summaries, and other tools with almost every search.
Google added AI summaries called “AI Overviews” to show quick answers at the top of search results. Many people don’t like seeing these summaries all the time.
There is one trick that can remove them. Type “–ai” at the end of what you search for. The en dash before “ai” tells Google to exclude that topic. Here, it just happens to remove AI summaries too.
Some people say they like the AI summaries because they find answers faster. Google also has a “web” filter that shows only links, but few people use it. The AI summaries are compared to other built-in features that can’t be removed.
This trick works mostly on computer browsers. On phones, it may not remove the summaries but you can click “Classic Search” instead to see regular links. Android phones seem to work better with this trick than iPhones.
The trick adds just a few extra keys for your fingers, like when people add “Reddit” to searches. Some people miss the old simple Google with just 10 blue links and no AI. If you really want no AI at all, try search engines like DuckDuckGo or Brave that let you turn summaries off in settings.
