Motorola sues social platforms and creators over posts

Bengaluru: Motorola has filed a lawsuit in a Bengaluru court against social media platforms and content creators over posts it says are false or harmful.

The suit asks courts to remove certain posts and stop people from sharing what Motorola calls “defamatory” content about its phones. “It will impact,” they said. “I will stop covering good parts too.”

The suit names platforms like X, YouTube, and Instagram, along with many content creators. Motorola wants the court to block them from posting things it claims are false about its products.

Motorola sent emails to creators whose posts were mentioned. One creator said their post was about a verified problem that Motorola fixed, but they still received a warning.

Some industry leaders support Motorola’s actions. Madhav Sheth, CEO of Ai+, said “freedom of speech is not a license for defamation” and warned of legal action.

India is the second biggest market for Motorola phones. Experts worry this legal action could stop people from sharing honest reviews online. A lawyer said many creators might remove posts to avoid legal trouble.

The suit could change how companies respond to online criticism in India. New rules there may make platforms and creators more responsible for online content.
