Snap announces Qualcomm partnership for AI-powered AR glasses comeback after years of development delays

Los Angeles: Snap has created new glasses called Spectacles with help from chipmaker Qualcomm. The company made these augmented reality glasses to show digital images in the user’s view like a smartphone screen. Snap quietly worked on these glasses for many years before deciding to share news about them.
The new glasses will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR chip that helps both virtual and augmented reality devices work better. This chip uses artificial intelligence to process information quickly and show users more realistic images. Snap chose Qualcomm because their technology can help make the glasses smaller, faster, and use less battery power.
Snap first started making the glasses more than ten years ago but had problems along the way. The company released earlier versions that regular people could buy in 2016 and 2019, but they did not sell very well. For the last few years, Snap only gave the glasses to developers so they could create special programs and games for them.
The partnership with Qualcomm means Snap wants to try again with better technology. The company hopes these new glasses will help people connect with friends, play games, and use apps in new ways. Snap’s CEO Evan Spiegel says working with Qualcomm will give users the best possible experience when the glasses finally come out later this year.
